Sounds like a nickname - for what, I'm not sure. Definitely doesn't sound like a stand-alone name. Many people in New England will say that they associate the name with Jerry Remy, sportscaster & former Red Sox player.
First birth: Natural (med-free) Second birth: Hell, no. Epidural all the way.
I like it, but as a nickname for a boy. Defs for a boy - I think it's sort of weird for a girl. DH and I are considering the name Jeremiah, and we'd do Remy for short.

Thought #1: This name always sounds incomplete to me. I know it isn't, but still--it sounds like something is missing or like it's a nickname. Not a fan.
I know a Middle Eastern woman named Reme (pronounced Ree-mee, or Reem sometimes people call her). I'm not sure how Remy is pronounced but that's what it makes me think of. She's beautiful and a great mom so I have good associatiion with it! I love it.

Keri - what are your thoughts/feelings? Which way do you lean as to sex?
Remy is traditionally a boys name but the author Colette has a sexy female character in her "Claudine" book series named Remy and I now love it for girls as well.
I think it works as a nickname (American) and as a full name (French).
I also wish it was used more than it currently is. I really love this name. Great choice!
I know a guy who drives a Remington addition truck, and his girlfriend calls it his "remy." It's the most annoying thing ever. Unfortunately, it's sort of ruined the name for me. I definitely think boy though, I can't see it for a girl.
Yeah, a French boy's name. Maybe it's just me, but I'd think it was a little weird to see a boy with the name Remy Johnson or something, unless it was short for Remington or something. I knew a Remington growing up, and he went either by Rem or Remmie (spelled that way).
I'm the weirdo here but I think of Olivia Wilde's Character on the TV show House. They call her 13 all of the time but I believe her first name is Remy.
Ok, since I got a fantastic amount of feedback, i'll go ahead and show the cards.
We're thinking about using it for a boy. I was inspired by the name years ago from a corny show on the USA network about a detective in New Orleans named Remy. I loved it further even after my father's best friend named his male black lab Remy. I used to work with a woman that was lebanese that had a son named Romy and I liked that as well.
My only hang up is that it's pretty short and maybe a little off from our naming style (Lillian, Bronson) so I considered just putting Remington on the birth cert, calling him Remy, and letting him decide if he wanted to go by Remington Middle name (potentially Albert) Last name (which is french) or R. Albert Lastname or R.A. Last name (which is what grandfather uses officially - abbreviations) or of course Remy Middle Last.
We are not pregnant yet, but our girls name is set in stone (Georgia Rosine) but we are ttc soon and are trying to hash out the boys name early because we aren't finding out the sex and that's generally when we discuss names!
The first and only Remy I know is an 8 year old girl spin have a tough time not associating with a little girl. I like it for a girl and don't think it is a good name for an adult man that is not French.
I wouldn't choose it myself. When I first heard it, I thought it was strange, but now I associate it with a certain person and am used to the name now.
My first association is Ratatoille (which I love even though I probably just butchered the spelling), second is Gambit, third is 13 from House. I prefer it for a boy. I like it with a French last name. I don't think I like Remington, although I do like Remus and Jeremiah.
Re: Remy
I love it!
I know a lot about this name.
Love, love, love!
I think of it as a French boy's name, or a NN for Remington (which I don't like) or Remus (which I do like).
I like the sound of it. I think it's unique and ages well and everything.
I do tend to think of the rat from Ratatouille---but that's ok. It's a nice name.
Remy.. reminds me of the rapper Remy Martin and it's also a cognac.
first thought..dislike.
second thought...alcohol.
third thought...the name of the character in "higher learning" who joined the white supremacist group on campus.
I think it is a great French BOY name (ray-MEE).
I like it a lot. The R?my that I dated was a great guy.
I would assume it was a boy.
I would assume it was his full name.
But, I also like Remus (REE-mus) as pp suggested, even though it has a different sound.
I would get a little crazy eyed if it was a girl. Yikes.

Thought #3: Gambit.

Me too!
This is one of my favorite girl names.
I prefer it on a girl, personally. Love it!

Thanks!
This.
I went to high school with a male Remi. It was pronounced Re-mee. He was quite nerdy so that's the association I have with the name.
However, Remington sounds like a strong, masculine name to me. If that is what you name your DS and call him Remy for short, I'd like that!

I like it!

It's definitely French, boy all the way, reminds me of Remy LeBeau (Gambit from the X-men) but that's not a bad thing.
I like it.
