Gift suggestions for inlaws who just retired to Annapolis?

They bought their dream house and have quite a big deck and yard so I wanted to get them something house-related.  FIL was in the navy so I was thinking maybe this:  https://www.swenweathervane.com/viewpic.cfm?CAT=120&ITEM=3998 but I wasn't sure of the quality.  Thought maybe you local nesties would have some suggestions!

Re: Gift suggestions for inlaws who just retired to Annapolis?

  • Is the weather vane something that would look good on their new house?

Did they just relocate/retire to Annapolis or have they lived there a while?

Would they appreciate tickets to Navy football next year or a membership to the Naval Academy Officer's club?   Not house related, but Navy and if they just moved here they might like that.

That weathervane is nice and I think 12 gauge metal is pretty substantial but to me it is more "Navy" than USNA alum if that makes sense. When I see a "US Navy" sticker on someone's car I don't automatically assume USNA, could be someone who enlisted, did ROTC, etc. If I see USNA or an N* (N star, the symbol for USNA varsity athletes) or Bill the goat, then I know it's USNA. We have several USNA alums in our neighborhood, as well as a few retired Navy who did not attend Annapolis.

  • Good questions; thanks for helping me think it through!  FIL was a commander in the navy and he went to USNA.  I saw where a local artist made several limited edition ornaments with the Annapolis skyline and I think MIL would love that so I might try to find one but I'd still need something else.

Not sure TBH; I've only seen pictures of the house.  I can order it with a lawn stake as well so they wouldn't need to put it on the roof.  I don't have my heart set on it at all; it's just that they are very hard to shop for and we struggle every year trying to come up with something.

They retired about a year ago but are not there permanently yet.  They travel back and forth between their current home and the place in Annapolis.  They are doing some rennovating and will move there permanently in the summer.

He is already a member of the Officer's Club and were at the game yesterday!  :)
