Cancelled birthday party! :o(

It is sure looking that way at least.  Taylor has been asking for the last 8 months to have her birthday at a kiddie pool at a local hotel.  The pool is 6 inches deep and includes a water jungle gym including a little waterslide.

Yesterday I take her into the doc and she has chicken pox.  The doc said if they dried up by Sun, it should be fine.  Hotel needs to know by Saturday if we need to cancel.

This morning she has 2 new lesions.  Sad

Not sure if the cousins at least would come over anyway (they have already been exposed) - but at least we have a 1/2 sheet Dora cake that we will enjoy and open some gifts with her.  (Actual b-day is 12/16) so we were doing 1/2 & 1/2 for gifts anyway.

  • oh boo! I would totally cancel.

I am waiting until tomorrow to call it for sure.  No one else has it now.  It has a 10-14 day incubation period, so they could break out just in time for Christmas parties!

  • Bummer! My siblings and I all had chicken pox right around Christmas when I was a kid. It didn't run over our birthdays too though. Poor thing! Can you reschedule for after Christmas?

We probably could.  I guess I never really thought about that.  We moved it up because we have a Christmas program & 2 parties the week of her b-day (one on her b-day).  Maybe a Christmas break kind of thing though!  DD would like it more if it included a hotel stay (and swimming the next morning) vs just a meeting room for the cake/presents.

  • Oh, what a total bummer! Sad  I don't think I'd want to chance it, but can you try to reschedule just the swimming for after the holidays?  I know my daughter always loves the swimming pool parties in the winter.
  • Can you just change the date vs cancel?  I know you might need to move it ot Jan with the holidays coming so fast but I would rather do that than cancel

I did some calling and after I talk to DH, we will probably do it the 28th.  With all the attendees out of school (and parents off) we can still do an afternoon swim party with pizza for dinner.  Once huge benefit is that we will be able to have an overnight stay at the hotel and go swimming again in the morning.  We may do something small for her this weekend with just us since we were planning to have her party early and have to cancel.  (We'll do cupcakes for her during the neighbor Christmas party on her B-day.)

  • What a bummer!  DS2 woke up puking the day we were supposed to have his party a couple of weeks ago.  It was at a gymnastics studio, and he was so excited about it.  Amazingly, everything worked out to reschedule to the next week.  The only problem was that all of my helping adults were busy the next week, so it was me and a bunch of 3-4 year olds.  Good luck rescheduling!

Thanks.  It looks really good to do it on Tuesday Dec 27th which could include an overnight stay at the hotel for only $25 extra.  Awesome to swim again the next morning!!

  • Aw poor baby! What bad timing. Looks like you're gonna reschedule though, so yay for that!
