Was CIO worse/harder the second day for anyone else?

My DD is stubborn as a mule.  Last night it took a little over an hour.  She got up after two hours, CIO for a little less than an hour (with me going in in 5 min intervals).

For nap today she cried for almost two hours (again with the 5 minute intervals) and didn't give in until I sat in her room until she passed out.  She woke up after 45 minutes.

She nursed and had formula, has a fresh diaper and had a dose of Tylenol in case her teeth are bugging her and she's still fighting it after an hour and 15 minutes.  She's not constantly crying, so I'm leaving her be, but dang.  I thought it got progressively better.

Sorry I keep posting about CIO.  My H isn't here to bounce stuff off of and though I've done CIO with the other two, it wasn't this hard.

  • My kids were always worse on the second day.  It does get better, hang in there!

  • First night my thought was "well that sucked but not as bad as I thought it would be". 2nd night "this is the most miserable thing ever. Am I abusing my child? This is horrible. Will it ever end?". So yes, 2nd night WAY worse. Third night was better. My theory, by the second night they get it, they get that life has changed and you're nit going back to the standard. They are PISSED, but they're learning . The first night they are just shocked.

  • I haven't done CIO yet... way to early for us.  But, are you going in every 5 minutes or increasing the time intervals each time?  You should be increasing the intervals so like 5min, 10min, 15min and then 15min each time after that.

  • Stop doing checks.  I know straight extinction feels mean but I bet all the money in the world the crying will be WAY shorter.

  • My oldest was my stubborn one & I had to do CIO w/her.  Lets just say it was not a short or easy process.  However, I will say that with her I couldn't go in because if I did, it would make it worse.  You have to gauge your DD's reaction because maybe it's better with intervals, maybe those interim visits are making it worse.  I hope it works quickly for you- that process suuuucks.  But I still wouldn't have made a different choice- it was best for her and for us.
