How can I get C to go on the potty?

I realize this sounds like a totally dumb question, but the kid will sit on the potty forever and he can never go.  You can see that he is thinking about it, but nothing ever happens.  And then I'll stick him in the tub or get his diaper back on and he'll pee within 2 mintues.  So I'm just trying to figure out a way to kind of explain to him how to go on demand.  I think if he did it a couple times, it would help.  He totally knows what is supposed to happen and he has seen the rest of us go.

  • Well, with DD we press the pee-pee button. LOL (her belly button) She thinks it's hilarious.

Never thought of that.  I'll try it!  I've even gone so far as to stick him in the tub and when he starts to pee, take him out and put him on the potty, but he always stops and then can't start again.  LOL.  I just think if he realized that he could sit there and make the pee come out and go into the potty, it would make much more sense to him.

  • We did  timer with DS #1, and filled him up with drinks, that way we knew he had to go, but the kids was 3.
  • I'm not concerned about potty training him fully right now.  I just want him to be able to go once in awhile (like before bath when I know he is going to go right when he gets in there) to get the idea in his head for when we are ready to go for it.
  • How about throwing some cheerios in the toilet have your DH aim for them (lol), and see if that would help him go.

I suggested this to dh and he thought I was nuts.  But now I can say tammy said so. Smile

  • With my older two, I just stripped them down and kept a potty seat in the room with us.  Eventually, they had to go.  DS1 peed on the floor once or twice, but after that he'd run to the potty.  It was still a while before either of them would hold it in when they were wearing undies.
