3rd Trimester

hate my new hair!!!

I've had the same hairstyle FOREVER.  I am so boring...  It's been my hair for, literally, my entire life.

So what does this stupid pregnant woman do?  changed my color completely -- why did I think this was a good idea?!?!?  I now look totally pale and washed out!  My stylist is wonderful, but I think she overdid this one a bit!!!

Ugh! My advice?  No major changes during pregnancy!!!  Stupid hormones are now in overdrive and I am taking this way too hard!

Also: I promise, I used all natural hair color :o)

  • Without posting a pic of previous hair, can you post a pic of this style?

  • trying washing it a few times with non color shampoo, it might help to fade it a bit! usually right after the color, its the darkest.. so give it a few washes and see if that helps bring some of the lighter pieces back in naturally.

you could always get a few carmel highlights to soften it if it doesn't fade enough... but i think you might find you'll get used to it after the first "shock" wears off.

  • Dawn dish soap usually does the trick in lifting hair color. There's this stuff that I think you can get at Sally's that is called Malibu 2000 that is actually used to strip your hair (clarify it I should use stylist terms) and is what my salon uses for clients that come in with chlorine build up or even to lift hair color that is even just a couple of shades too dark and it works!

I work at Smart Style inside of Walmart and I know for sure they use the Malibu 2000. It's $10 to get one done, but I promise it will do the trick. They would put your under a hot dryer for at least 30-45 minutes to ensure that it lifts.

    Good luck!

  • I definitely wouldn't try to strip the color yourself... It will probably end up being super brassy.

Have you talked to your stylist and explained what you don't like? Any salon I've ever gone to will bend over backwards to make sure the guest is satisfied. Perhaps she can put some highlights or lowlights in there or tone you all over? I just wouldn't take things into your own hands. Explain to her what you don't like, and help her figure out how to fix it.

    Good luck, Mama!

  • I know how you feel about hating it. I just went for a trim and told the lady I wanted bangs... big mistake!! I have always hated bangs on myself... yet I can not explain why I asked her to do it. Oh these hormones!
  • I have long hair, and I always have.  I went to get my highlights done this week and told my stylist that I kinda wanted to cut it short-ish (for me, that would be around my shoulders) and she wouldn't do it!  Lol, thank goodness!
She said that she wanted me to think about it for a few weeks, honestly, and that if I still wanted it cut, then she would do it for me.  She was afraid that it was my hormones doing the talking for me, and I'm so glad she stopped me!!  I cut about 4 or 5 inches off a couple of years ago, and though I ended up liking it, there was about a week of emotional wreckage that followed the cut.  SO glad I'm not dealing with that right now!  Yay Kirstie!!!  Good lookin' out!

Anyway, I would go back to your stylist, after about a week, if you still don't like it.  Like some pp said, sometimes it's just the shock of it that's turning you off.  Be honest with her, and tell her what you don't like about it, and let her tell you the best way to fix it.  PLEASE don't try to lift your own color!!  You can really get yourself into a world of hurt if you start trying to change your own hair... and then  you'll just get really depressed!  Good luck, hun.  And remember, it's just a bad dye job, it CAN be fixed!
