Success after IF

36 week appointment update..

Well - it looks like there is a very good chance that Jack could be here in 3 weeks!  Via planned C ... he has not turned and shows zero interest in doing so and is getting bigger every day.  I am talking to peri on Wednesday .. will discuss an external version (manual attempt to turn the baby from the outside) but truly - I don't think we're going to do it.  We'd have to do it next week - at 37 weeks - and they have an OR ready to go in case baby goes into distress and has to be delivered via C right then and there.  That's RARE .. but so is everything else that happens to me so I can see me being THAT patient.  I'm not inclined to do it and John (DH) is adamantly against it.  He thinks it sounds too potentially dangerous for the baby. So - we are leaning toward the planned C (ha ha, so much for my crunchy birth vision) and if we go that route - it will happen at 39 weeks!

I cried at my midwife appointment in talking about all of this - she was so great and took so much time with us.  We were there for well over an hour just talking it out.  I love my midwives.  I wish I could do a crunchy birth with them - but it's not feeling like it's in the cards.  But one of them will be with me during the C,  how cool is that?!  And will help wrestle my baby away from the nursing staff so we can put him to breast within an hour of his being born.

So that's the update!  And of course he could still turn on his own .. although even midwife thinks that is very unlikely at this point.  He is big, breech, and perfectly comfortable RIGHT where he is.

Wheee!

Re: 36 week appointment update..

  • Good luck....I would probably decide against the version too. Not that my opinion matters LOL.

My SIL has had 2 scheduled c/s now (both for breech babies) and she had a great experience both times.  The nurses had my niece on her breastfeeding before she was even fully stitched up in the second case!

  • so sorry he's being so stubborn!  But so glad you have all this support.  And that you can deliver by 39 weeks!  I'm almost at 38 and just wish it could be over but I know this baby is just going to take her sweet little time...just like her DH. Huh?
  • Well congrats on a potential Mommy date!  I know this wasn't exactly what you had desired, but your strength is so commendable!  I can't wait to hear your story and see pics of Jack!  I can't believe you're at 36 weeks already!!  Congrats chica!!!

  • My baby turned 3 days before my scheduled c/s.  They decided to induce me, but I eneded up needing a c/s anyway for other reasons.

We had decided against the ex-v also.  It sounded too scary to me.

  • Good luck!  DD was a stubborn breech baby as well, so it was a c-section for us too (we didn't want to try an external version).  I hope baby Jack turns for you : )
  • I'm sorry to hear that he's so comfortable in the breech position. However, how cool is it that you could meet your son in 3 weeks?!

  • I'm sorry!!! But yay for three weeks!!!!
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! • If it helps you feel any better at all, DD was on my breast w/i 25 minutes of my planned c/s. I made it very clear to the nursing staff, LC, etc. from the get go that I wanted her ASAP. A few minutes after she was born, they took her to the nurses' room (through a window from the OR) and DH went to be with her while they weighed her, etc. It gave me a lot of piece of mind to know DH was with DD while I couldn't be.
  • Aww, I'm sorry Jack is being so stubborn.  But THREE WEEKS!   That is so exciting!  Isn't it awesome to have a "no later than" date??

  • Thanks for the update - how exciting that you'll be meeting him in 3 weeks' time even if it's not in the way you had planned!

  • It's a shame about your plans, but I know it'll all be worth it when he's there and it sounds like your midwives are really looking out for you. I'd probably decide the same about the version. Maybe you'll still get lucky-- apparently my SIL turned at the very last minute.
  • Wow - only 3 more weeks ?!?!  I've been without internet and wondering if he's decided to turn yet...Guess he's comfy right where he is, sorry mama!!  It sounds like you'll be in great hands and that's so awesome the CNM will be there with you!!  And it sounds like little, I mean big, Jack has his own agenda so don't bum yourself out over it!!
  • That is great that one of the midwives can be with you for a scheduled section, I would have loved to have my midwife with us. I had DS nursing or attempting to within a hour of his being born, that was the first thing I asked about when I got to recovery.
  • So sorry he hasn't turned.  I know you really wanted a natural birth.  I would be against the manipulation as well.  It just sounds so scary and I wouldn't want to risk any harm to the baby.  Are you still seeing the acupuncturist and chiropractor?  I've heard stories of babies turning right at the end, so you never now.  I have an appt this week and they are going to do another ultrasound to make sure he is head down.  I still can't believe he turned.  The OB kept telling me it was unlikely due to my septum, I guess you just never know.  Keep me posted!
  • Aw... I'm sorry he's being so stubborn.

On the bonus side though, you get to pick his birthday :)
