Gestational Diabetes

 Has anyone else been diagnosed with GD? I just got the call yesterday from the dr's office that I was over on my 3 hour sugar test. I have an appointment on Monday to talk about the eating guidelines but I was just curious if anyone else is going through this too.

I have GD. They ended up putting me on Glyberide {sp?} to help regulate my morning sugars. It's not as bad as one would think...at least mine hasn't. I can tell you when my sugars are high and when they are low before taking my sugar. I'm also deathly afraid of needles...and test my blood with the poker just fine. If it's for the wellbeing of my child, I've found I handle it much better.

Yes with DD and this pregnancy, DD was regulated by diet this time has been proving to be a bit harder. I have a meeting with the dietitian tuesday again and my midwife on friday to go over my numbers again. But its not that bad. I got a new meter and lancing system that is awesome. Its the one touch mini with the delica lancing thingy. Doesnt hurt at all.

Yep got diagnosed with GD at 30 weeks.  I was able to control mine just with diet; I had to test 4x per day for the first couple weeks, but since my numbers were all under the threshold given, I now only have to test 2x per day.  After you meet with the nutritionist, you'll have a better idea of how to handle it, if you need to be on meds, etc. 

If you check out the High Risk Pregnancy board, there are lots of GD'ers over there that you can read up on.

This is my second time with GD.  I was diet controlled last time, require Glyburide this time (in addition to diet, of course).  My doctor has started monitoring me with weekly u/s for growth, and I'll have NST next week, but otherwise everything is normal.  DD was born weighing 6.6 lbs and this baby is measuring between 45-50th percentile, so not anticipating any problems!
