To those trying no 'poo

Do not get discouraged with your hair, keep no 'pooing and it will turn around, I promise.

I almost shampooed my hair on Sunday because it felt greasy and gross but when I got in the shower I just couldn't bring myself to do it and no 'pooed instead.  I'm not going to lie, there wasn't a hair miracle during that shower but a few days later and I'm so glad I didn't shampoo my hair.  I brushed my hair and pulled it into a low pony for convenience today, tonight when I pulled the pony out I brushed it again and am amazed at the softness and shine in my hair.  My hair has never looked or felt better.  If I feel like I'm having a greasy day I pull my hair back into a pony or braid before I go out and no 'poo it when I shower later, not even my wife says my hair looks gross.

Stick with it and you will see a difference!

Re: To those trying no 'poo

  • I am totally going to try this out as soon as I'm done with this job.  We'll be at my mom's for the holidays, and I don't care that much if it looks bad.

I am having a big scalp psoriasis flare right now, and I'm hoping the no 'poo actually helps.  I think shampoo is irritating, even the medicated ones.  Going to ask my doc about switching to topical meds over medicated shampoos since the shampoos aren't working anyway.

Has anyone else with scalp issues tried this?

  • I've done every other day, as well.  Actually, I think I did two days in a row.  Anyway. I did it today and my hair is CURLY!  So fun.  I'm loving it so far.
  • TMM - I do it whenever I feel like my hair needs a wash which has been every other day to every two days.  Last week I did it M-W-F-Sun, haven't done it at all this week so far and my hair and scalp feel and look great.  You will get to a point where you don't need to do it as often because your scalp will start producing a normal amount of oil, not the oil factory it was when you were shampooing.

hlke - I've had pretty bad scalp issues for the last couple of years and was getting ready to try coal tar shampoo.  I am giving no 'pooing a shot with the hopes of alleviating my scalp itchiness/flakiness issues along with reducing my chemical usage and so far so good.  The itchiness stopped almost immediately after my first no 'poo session and the flakes are reducing a lot more quickly than I had expected.

  • Thanks for the feedback, that is promising.  My other skin issues have generally responded well to a "less is more approach" so here's hoping!

I am super itchy due to psoriasis and exczema  I found out that CARROTS really flare things up so be careful on your Karatine intake and hot water is the worst thing for itchy skin. Just wanted to share

  • Okay so I've read a few different no 'poo recipes.  Are you all doing the more liquid one or the pastier one?  I feel like a paste consistency would feel like it was cleaning better.  Just curious.

I'm using the liquid version, 1 cup of water + 1 Tbsp baking soda for the wash (this should last for a few washes, not much is needed.  The rinse is 1 cup of water + 1 Tbsp lemon juice or ACV.

I was weird at first, no bubbles, and felt like I was scrubbing my head with nothing but water but now that I know it cleans well I prefer the feeling.
