I can't believe I'm even posting this, but here goes. I got one of those postcards that says, "you've been selected to receive 2 round trip Southwest tickets and a 2 night hotel stay." I called just because, knowing there'd be a catch. DH and I need to attend a presentation at a local hotel that will last 1.5 hours. They claim it's not a timeshare presentation, but it's some sort of vacation sales thing.
DH doesn't want to waste the time (and I can't get the incentive without him attending). Would you go?? I have no problem saying no at the end and taking my tickets and getting the F out there. We travel a few times a year, always on Southwest, and I'm always trying to get free tickets (with credit card points, miles, etc.).
Re: Too good to be true - would you waste time on timeshare like presentation??
If you love the destination yes I would! My mom and I did one a few years ago, it was a Marriot presentation in VEGAS. OMG did we have a blast! Sure the presentation was crappy, my mom was actually seriously interested as one of her BFF's had bought and referred her and knowing that DH and I adore Vegas she knew we'd get tons of use.
The negatives
-they picked us up at our hotel in a bus so we were stuck at their property.
-It took closer to 3 hours, I'm sure my mom's interest played into that, they really didn't want to let us go when they felt they had her on the hook (they also knew it was me that was the debbie downer). In the end we literally had to get up and walk away
-They are super pushy, crazy pushy. I was prepared because I'd done a couple before but my mom is not the best as putting her foot down. We really had to say " don't pull any bait and switch crap with us, don't make us sit around to talk to your manager ect". They try to wear you down so it's easier to say yes so you can get out of there. *** I should say the Vegas one did that. DH and I did a Fairmont presentation in SF and they were awesome. Direct, laid everything out and when we said not for us asked a couple questions, respectfully, and then happily showed us out.****
A is right about the making you talk to the manager stuff. We flat out said, " we are not going to talk to him, we've made up our mind and are leaving!". They weren't happy but they can't force you to do it, but man will most of them push you to do it.
The positives
- My mom and I had an incredible vacation together. We stayed at Treasure Island, which I never would have chosen on my own but we had the most amazing room with a killer view straight down the entire strip.
-Other than 3 hour one afternoon we had 3 nights and 4 days all to ourselves, my mom had never been to vegas so I loved showing her everything.
-We were able to add an extra night, or more had we wanted, for a rediculously cheap price.
-We were able to upgrade our room without paying a fortune.
My overall thoughts.
If it's a cool location go! Be strong, tough and stay in control of the presentation and walk when they're done. And then refer DH and I so we can get a free vacay too
