Hi -
so you might think this is an outdated tradition, but I love the tradition of the dads handing out cigars that say "It's a girl/boy" to celebrate the baby's birth.
I want to get my husband some for Christmas but can't for the life of me find a place that's affordable online. I want real cigars, not chocolate or bubble gum.
Has anyone done this, and know of a cheaper way to do it? I found some cheapo labels online but they aren't as cool, and it would be fun to have the box to go with them.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Re: Question about birth celebratory cigars
I love tradition! I think this is a great idea. If you've exhausted your online searches, you might try going to a local cigar shop and asking them if they can point you in the right direction. I'm sure they'll be able to help out.
Hmmmm.... maybe we should combine celebratory cigars in my family. It's going to get pretty hazy in our neck of the woods if we don't... brother's wife due Christmas, I'm due Valentine's Day, 2 cousins due in March and one in April!
Cigars International has a box of 20 Churchills (a very long, medium thickness cigar) for $50. It's a pretty good deal and they're a good company - we've ordered stories for DH from them many times before. (www.cigarsinternational.com)
Keep in mind, though, that with cigars you get what you pay for and the more expensive the bundle, generally the better quality cigar you'll get. However, if DH or his buddies are not avid cigar smokers, this is probably a moot point. HTH!
