Breast Feeding Pillows?

I am hoping to breastfeed my babies and have a question about the support pillows they sell.  I have used Boppys in the past not to breastfeed but to bottle feed babies and they have worked, but I have found that as they get used they tend to flatten.  I'm concerned that if I try to use a Boppy to nurse twins every day numerous times a day it won't hold up. Would I need two to stack to get the babies high enough so I am not constantly hunched over? I have seen the Breast Friend pillows but obviously never used them.  I would love any advice you ladies have for what is the best set up for breastfeeding both babies.  I would like to try to do both of them at the same time... :)  Thanks!

  • I used the My Breast Friend  Twin Nursing Pillow.  My only complaint is that when I was nursing they didn't sell covers separately so you could have an extra cover.  Now they do!

It was a great nursing pillow and made everything so much easier.  A couple of times I forgot it when I would go places, and so I used two boppies (I had lots of friends with young babies when my girls were born!).  It was "ok" but no where near as easy.

  • I'm planning on using the Twin pillow at home, and hopefully being able to pump so when we're out, I can BF one and Jake can bottle feed the other.  Otherwise while out I'd probably BF one at a time.

Though 2 boppies while out seems much less cumbersome than traveling w the Twin pillow!!

  • I spent the $ for the my brest friend twin pillow with dreams of tandem BFing. Well, that didn't work out, and I really wish I had waited on buying the pillow to see if
I really needed it. Just my 2 cents...
TTC for 3 years. Finally successful after 5 IUIs and 2 cycles of IVF. Our amazing twins were born 5 weeks early on 8/16/11. Found out April 2012 that our di/di twins are ID.

  • I use a My Breast Friend twin pillow and couldn't tandem nurse without it! It is a little low for my frame (I'm almost 6 ft tall) but I imagine it varies depending on your torso height. I just rest my arms under my babies and that brings them up high enough. It also depends on if I'm nursing in bed, on a high or low couch or with a nursing stool.

If you are planning to breastfeed and never done it before I would recommend reading "Mothering Multiples" by the La Leche League. It's a fabulous resource for BF-ing multiples, concerns related to multiples etc.

And just remember it's possible to BF no matter what people tell you!! I constantly hear people telling me it's not possible to BF twins and yet I'm doing it and you can too! It's not easy but it's possible if you just commit! (Baring any medical issues of course!)

  • I used a regular BF pillow and it worked fine, I also did not tandem feed so perhaps that's why I had good success with a regular one.

  • I use the brest friend twin pillow - it's the only way I can do it without someone helping me.  I had a really tough time tandem feeding them until they got to be around 10 lbs and able to hold their heads up.  However I usually feed them one at a time with no pillow, just cradle hold unless they are both hungry at the same time or I am trying to get it done fast.
  • Thank you so much ladies!  I too am pretty tall and so it was a major concern of mine being hunched over and sore all the time.  I will look into the book that was suggested too, I really want to bf, not only for the benefits to the babies but lets get serious that formula is expensive! :)
