3rd Trimester

I know everyone has a different experience, but....

I'm starting to get regular contractions (they're somewhat painful, but I can definitely talk through them) at about 15 minute intervals.  My husband and I are wondering if he can go in to work today...  2nd time moms, or just people who remember from their birth classes...  any idea how long it COULD take to progress to 5 or  6 minutes apart, if in fact, this is the start of labor?  Thx!

  • If it was my DH I'd send him to work on the condition that he needs to check in with me every couple hours...

  • We just went to the labor class week before last and pre-labor can last up to 18 hours or so... I think they were saying when they get closer to 7-5 minutes apart is when you really need to focus on going to the hospital.  I stayed at 7 minutes apart for A LONG time with my first and went in to the hospital.  I WILL NOT do that again because being at home would be so much more comfy.  But at least have someone there with you if he does go to work so you can have some support and help if you need it!  Good luck
  • Like PP said, I would send him to work and have him check in on me. When I went into labor with DD, my contractions started at 7:30 p.m. and we didn't end up heading to the hospital until 1:30 a.m. And we have a 1 hr drive to the hospital!

  • I sent my DH to work even though my contractions started the way yours did.  I did let him know that he may get a call from me to meet me at the hospital.  I had my mom there with me so I was not concerned about being home alone.

At about 2am my contractions started (like yours) and they did not become closer together until later that evening around 8/9pm.  I got to the hospital at 10pm.  I delivered my son the following day at 8pm.
