im due next month (jan 21st) and ive heard alot of people say that i shouldnt use a jacket or snowsuit to bring her home in because she can slip down into the suit and suffocate i have a cozy cover for the carseat but i just dont think it will be warm enough, can i use the suit i have for her? its like a sleeping sack and it has a slot for the carseat belt to go through
Re: going home
ok thank you very much for the advice
Damn, i forgot about that and i'm pg w/#2. Thanks!
The cover is going to be A LOT warmer than you think it's going to be!! We had one with DD and will use it again providing it fits over the seat with LO too.. What we did was depending on the temperature out we'd use a different thickness of blanket on top of her and had more issues with her getting too warm than we ever did with her being cold...
I would not use the suit!! Even if there's the little notch for the carseat it doesn't mean that it'll fit in there properly for your LO.
Everything PPs have said, plus this-if you are using an infant carrier seat be sure to always bring it in the house, and not leave it in your car. That way you're always putting baby in a room temp/warm carseat before going into the car. Plus those seats hold heat very well. They're really thick and most have a padded cover that will help keep baby warm.

You should never put a baby in any type of coat or snowsuit in their carseat. It's not safe. What you need to do is put the baby in a sleeper with an undershirt underneath and put the baby in the carseat. Then fold up a nice warm fleece baby blanket on top of the baby, on top of that put on one of the carseat covers (the shower cap type, nothing that goes behind the baby).
Witht he carseat cover when you go outside just put the hood flap closed to keep out the wind and the cold. The baby will be snuggly warm and safe!
