After posting yesterday about THINKING my water broke, we decided to just go and check it out just in case!
Water broke around 8:30am, made it to the hospital around 10:40am.
Checked into L&D and got situated. A nurse used a test strip to test the fluid but there was no change on the strip, aka no amniotic fluid. I was pretty confused because I could tell SOMETHING was leaking!! She checked me internally and I was 5cm and 80% effaced. They called the on call OB and since I was scheduled to be induced tonight at midnight, they'd just keep me.
Soon after I had the internal, I started having contractions. They got more and more intense but they weren't registering much on the monitor so they decided to augment my labor with pitocin. Five minutes with the pit attached and I asked for an epidural. I was NOT feeling that pain for the rest of the day! Luckily, the anesthesiologist was in the building and I was next on his roster. He was in and out in under 20-25 minutes and it was seriously the easiest thing ever. The shot of lidocaine they give you to begin with hurt the worst. Checked me after the epidural was put in and I was at 7cm and at a definite 0 station. This all happened at about 1:30-2pm.
I was smitten with the pain relief after that, but it didn't take long to feel a TON of INTENSE pressure in my behind. My OB made it in around 3:40 and at 3:50 checked me and I was at 10cm, 100%effaced and a +1 station. I began pushing at 4:15
20 minutes later, Harper Lily Jones was born! She weighs 7lbs 1oz and is 20 inches long. I had VERY little tearing, and it was only from the speed at which she was delivered (and totally in a strange spot, on the left side up about a half-whole inch. It took 2 stitches to sew up and I was ready to go. We were only at the hospital for about 6 hours before she was born!
I feel great today! Aside from being exhausted, little girl didn't sleep much last night. My back is sore where they placed the epi and my hips/crotch ache. Peeing SUCKS afterward! I will warn allllll you FTMs out there! That was probably the WORST part of my labor, HOLY COWWWWW!! Harper is latching very well and is currently sleeping in the bassinet beside me! We are very proud parents!!!
