xp: What to do with old bottles/nipples?

Hi girls, we bought all our Dr. Browns bottles for DS before everything went BPA free.  I just went out and bought all new feeding supplies.  Do you think I could/should donate all my old stuff?  I hate throwing it away.  Will Salvation Army accept it or should I try somewhere else?  Thanks!

  • I would just throw it all away.  The person that ends up with them might not realize that they have BPA.  If you don't want to use those bottles for your own baby why would you want someone else's baby using them?

  • also, if they are not in original packaging mst places cannot take them. On the off chance we did use them and had BM in there. some sort of regulation.

  • Even bottles that are BPA free really aren't reusable.  You are supposed to replace nipples and bottles every 3 months or so anyway so I would throw them away.

Really? Can you elaborate/cite? I've heard about nipples, and that makes sense, but why would bottles need to be replaced that often? I'm planning on reusing my bottles so I'm curious. Thanks.

  • I threw away the nipples from my first son as well as the yellow insert thingie because they were looking sort of nasty! I have the BPA free ones though- so I am reusing the bottles. You could try CL or Freecycle. You could give the BPA disclaimer and let someone decide for themselves. If they are really in a bind, I bet they would really appreciate free bottles. I still would toss the nipples though.

  • I know you're supposed to ditch the nipples after 3 months, but the bottles? never heard that. But i have glass, so i was just going to reuse.

  • I would put them on craigslist under the farm/garden category for anyone that's looking to bottle feed their spring kids or lambs.... if you're just trying to get rid of them without them going to waste.
