3rd Trimester

Lower back pain at 33 weeks.

I have been having really bad lower back pain this last week. It's to the point where I feel like I need to brace myself when I get out of bed in the a.m. or middle of night to go to bathroom. Even just standing in the same spot for a few mintues make me wince in pain.

Is this common when you are so close to giving birth or should I mention it to my OB?  I will see him on Tues... haven't been to him in over 5 weeks but hopefully now that I'm 33 weeks I will start seeing him more often.

Re: Lower back pain at 33 weeks.

  • I've been having this for weeks. I'm sure it's just the baby weight and pressure etc. It gets increasingly worse every week... I'm wishing I'd cleaned the bottom half of my house more thoroughly because bending is just not an option. Even washing the dishes for 5 minutes leaves me with a throbbing lower back for the rest of the night.

Try a heating pad or a warm bath! OH! And for me, it's way way worse when I wake up on my back in the middle of the night. I can barely even get out of bed at that point. So if that's happening with you, try even harder to sleep on your side.

  • I've been having this for a couple weeks now too. I'll be interested to see what other people have to say & what my Dr. says about it on Wednesday. My lo has already dropped & someone told me all the pain can be because she's facing up instead of down. Not sure. I've found that hot baths & this awesome massage chair that I have do wonders for the pain! Oh like mentioned above: don't sleep on your back!

  • Ditto the heating pad, that has worked wonders for me! Getting out of bed and out of our recliner is very difficult already, and it's a process. Definitely mention it to your doctor (since it can be a sign of labor), but I mentioned it to mine and she said back pain is very normal and not to worry about it unless its accompanied by cramping and/or contractions.

  • You might try a tennis ball massage or hip thrusts...that's helped me...
