XP: organic mattress...worth it?

I have about $150 of target gift cards I've been collecting for baby stuff. I'm at the point now where I can buy an organic mattress (which is what I was planning on, to avoid some of the chemicals/fumes) for about $100 online, but then if it doesn't fit right or I don't like it I have to return it to target.com, not the actual store. Or, I could just get a nice non-organic mattress in the store for free with the gift cards.

This is the mattress I'm looking at online: https://www.target.com/p/Naturepedic-Organic-Cotton-Crib-Mattress/-/A-10957298

Do you think it's worth the extra money to avoid the chemicals? Does anyone have experience with this particular mattress? TIA!!

  • We sprung for the organic mattress. It's worth it to me, especially since we'll be using that as a floorbed for the years to come, and eventually LO#2.

  • I do not have experience with this particular mattress. However when I read your post I immediately wondered why you would think it would not fit right. Maybe I am naive but I thought that all crib mattresses were a standard size?

Personally we got a used (from a friend) crib mattress, and a BabeSafe mattress cover. Both of those things (used and covered) gave me peace of mind about the fumes/chemicals.

  • I have a Naturepedic and I love it.  I hope to get the twin sized ones for the kids.  They spend so much time sleeping on their beds, I think it's well worth the extra cost.
