I have the regular Kindle and I love mine!! I got it for Christmas last year. The Kindle Fire looks really cool and you can downoad apps and other stuff to it.
I got the Nook Color for Christmas last year and I love it! My only gripe (and this is true with all e-readers) is the price of the electronic books. Most books cost the same as a paperback and I expected them to be significantly cheaper. I don't understand why I need to pay $8-16 for an electronic version which requires practically no overhead.
My DH recently got the Kindle Fire and I thought I would hate it as I am very loyal to "old fashion reading" but I absolutely love it. I'm actually considering buying one for myself now so I don't have to share! Our library loans out e-books too so you don't have to pay to buy every book you want to read. I also found four freebies through Amazon that I have read and enjoyed, but that I probably wouldn't have picked up if I had to pay for them.
I have no experience with the Nook, but my DH is a gadget guy and spent weeks comparing the two and chose the Kindle so I trust his opinion.
My DH had a Sony e-reader for a while and loved it, but just got the Fire and says it has surpassed all his expectations, he loves that thing.
The e-readers use e-ink so you need a light to see the screen in the dark, but the battery lasts longer and the screen doesn't hurt your eyes.
The Fire has a regular screen like a computer, so it's backlit. You don't need a light to see the screen, but you can't see it in full sun. The battery has been ok so far, but man my eyes hurt after a while of looking at that thing. (Same with computer screens for me though...)
