I'm still mixing with purified water as pedi suggested that after switching from BFing when DS was 7wks old. How long do you use purified water? Can you switch to tap water at any time? (city, not well water.)
I would switch. I'm in the process of switching from BM to formula now at 4.5 months and the pedi told me my water was just fine. And we have well water that has been tested and found to be very good/safe and a fridge filter so I plan on using that. The pedi also told me that with BM and the massive amount of water I drink anyways baby has been getting it all along.
He told me purified water was basically for newborns and compromised immune systems and bottled water after that was basically tap from who knows where anyways.
Take my opinion FWIW maybe though. My pedi is a bit on the greenpeace, if you'd do it for you, do it for your baby to make your life easier side.

Same for us. We just started formula at 5 months and I mix it with regular tap water. It's so much faster to use warm water instead of heating up bottles in a cup.

i think our water is safe (i live in boston) but i am totally sketched out by tap water for some reason. i'll only drink it out of the gallons i buy/keep in the fridge. i am originally from LI and the tap water there is suspected of causing cancer, so maybe that's why?
i know most bottled water is just tap water from somewhere else, but for the peace of mind it brings me (even if it is false security..) i dont mind spending the buck on a gallon of nursery water. i keep it on the counter and my lo drinks her bottles at room temp, which is easy/fine with both of us.
We used nursery water with DD1, only because we moved when she was a few months old and the change in water messed up her stomach a bit. This time we use filtered tap water. Our pedi said go with whatever mom drank during pregnancy.

I think the recommendations vary by pedi because of where you live. They are likely aware of the water in your city/town and make recommendations accordingly. Ours said we could boil tap water and that would be fine. Interestingly, we were advised against bottled water by our pedi and NICU - something about the lack of regulation of bottled water, leading it to be more unsafe than tap. Who knows!
I've always used basic distilled water. I used 'Nursery Water' at first but then saw it's from a "fluoridated source" and I was told you shouldn't use fluoridated water, even though most tap water is.
