Animal Print - In or Out?

I have this dress from Target:

It's a smooth, kinda faux silky material, but not exactly. DH's high school reunion is Saturday night. I was thinking about wearing this with some black leggings underneath (it's pretty short on me, just below mid thigh).

Two questions:

1. DH asked if animal print was out of style. Um, I have no idea. Is it?

2. It's going to be cold, and I would like to cover my arms if possible. Can you think of anything I could wear over this? I have a black scarf/wrap but it seems too dressy for this trendy outfit. A black winter coat is my current plan, but obviously would only be on outside. A cardigan is too casual, right?

TIA!

Re: Animal Print - In or Out?

  • I HATE animal print, but that isn't blatant animal to me and it's really pretty cute.

I would do a cute jacket or blazer (possibly w sleeves rolled up) and some fun jewelry.  And black booties or pumps.

  • Definitely in.  Do you have a purple cardi?  That would be super cute!

  • Animal print is in style. A short cardigan would look cute. Or you could do a regular-sized cardigan and tie a thin, sparkly belt at your waist on the outside of the cardigan. You could wear tall black boots with a heel, some platform pumps, or some heeled booties.

  • Still in!  I'm wearing a leopard print scarf today =)

I'd keep the rest of your outfit simple like you suggested, black tights/pumps, and possibly a black scarf.  I'd probably even keep the cardi simple if you go that route.

  • I usually have subtle amounts of animal print as opposed to a whole outfit of it but like pp said, this isn't a bad print and I too actually kind of like it.  I would wear any color cardigan or something with it.  I'd wear it with red.
