Babies: 3 - 6 Months

delayed reaction to shots

So my LO did really well again at his 4 mos. shots. Cried really quick then stopped. He then proceeded to smile and babble in the car. I thought this a little too good to be true. Around 7:45 pm he woke up from a nap crying uncontrollably, the hardest we have seen him. It went on for about 30 min. then I gave him Tyenol after realizing he wasnt hungry, gassy etc. Anyone else have a delayed reaction with LO?

Re: delayed reaction to shots

  • My DD#1 didn't have much of a reaction for her 4 month shots - just a yucky belly from the oral (rota) vaccine.  However, for her 2 month shots, she had a very delayed reaction - by a day and a 1/2!

  • I had this happen at the 2 months shots. DD did something similar to your LO - four hours after the shots, she started crying in pain (incredibly pitiful and heartwrenching!) and when i changed her diaper, her left leg was swollen and red. I iced it, gave her tylenol and she slept /nursed the rest of the day. It took about three days for her to really get back up to her usual cheerful self but we only ended up having to give two doses of tylenol. I'm somewhat dreading the 4month shots because of it.

  • Yes! My son's 2 month and 4 month shots (which are the same shots at our pedictricans) he did well at the docs office. Napped and nursed as normal and then woke up both times about six hours later screaming! The first time I suffered through it for three hours holding him but the last time I gave him tylenol and it knocked him out.
  • The info we received said to watch closely for reactions for 48 hrs.  So I would not consider anything in the first 48 hrs delayed.

  • The real question is why would you inject your child with aluminum, formaldehyde, thimerosal, and a live virus? My DD's godmother has a daughter that became severely withdrawn after her MMR series. 3 months later she was diagnosed with autism. I didn't want to believe vaccines that we give our children would do this, but you have no idea what it's like until it hits home for you. Do you ask for the list of ingredients in these shots? Of you saw the contents of them i highly doubt you would be so eager to continue vaccinating. So flame me as you will, but I just cant help but wonder why a newborn/infant would need all the vaccines we give them in the 21st century. I'm an 80s baby with only 5 vaccines and I'm healthy and happy. Why have we lost our faith in natural immunity? Why have we lost our faith in trusting our instincts?

  • Cloudy, although I realize this is an open forum, I was not asking whether to vaccinate or not, I was more curious as to if others have had delayed reactions. I will not judge you so I would appreciate if you don't judge me.
