Another bump in the road(question about Provera)

After waiting for what seemed like an eternity for AF she finally showed today. Yes!! Time to get started!! Well.....not so fast. My lab work showed that my progesterone and estrogen were very elevated for a "normal" period. My RE doesn't know why the levels are so high but she gave me the heartbreaking news that we cannot start meds with my levels like this. Instead I have a prescription of Provera to take so that I can get a "real" period and get down to baseline levels. Will the disappointment ever end?!? My question is for those who have taken Provera, what can I expect? She said some start their periods immediately after finishing the prescription and for some it takes weeks. Are there any side effects I should be prepared for? I just don't know what to expect. TIA!

I think someone just asked this so you might find some helpful responses not too far down or on the next page, but I think the consensus was that its different each time. I have taken it twice, the first time I got my period about 5 days after the last pill and the second I spotted for a few days and then got it as soon as I finished the pills. No side effects for me. I am so sorry, i am in a kind of similar situation, i just got a BFN for my first injectables cycle and was excited to start a second one but found out i have cysts on my ovaries still and cant start this cycle. It's extremely heartbreaking.

Anyway, I've taken provera quite a few times while i was doing clomid cycles and i got AF about 3-4 days after the last pill each time.

    Good luck to you!

The one time I took Provera I found that my period started about 3 days after taking the last pill. I did not notice any side effects from taking it. GL and I hope the bumps start smoothing out.

I took Provera once to kick-start my first medicated cycle. I took 10 mg for 10 days, and had no side effects. AF showed up 3 days after my last dose. Good luck!
