Cervical check-up kinda hurts

Had a routine appointment today but didn't know the OB would check my cervix. I wasn't ready for it to hurt!  I suppose that when an OB can feel the head of the baby, that means she's way up in there.  I was one cm dilated, which is good, because I've had a LEEP and scar tissue could be a problem.   Wow- getting so close!!

  • Is that what they call an "internal" exam?  I've heard that it's not pleasant.  Sorry.  But glad to hear everything seems to be looking good!

  • Yeah, they usually hurt.  I can see why you want to be checked with your history of LEEP, but for most women they are not necessary until actively in labor.  They just give you false hope or false disappointment.  You can go into labor even with a closed, thick cervix, or you can walk around dilated and effaced for weeks.  I'm going to decline internal exams this time.
