5 wk old BF

Hi,

First time poster after lurking for a bit.  I'm just wondering how often you are BF your 5 wk olds and how long they are normally eating for?  It seems like DD wants to eat every 2 hours and for about 10-15 minutes.  I feel like she should be eating for a bit longer and then less frequently.  She is gaining weight so I think she is fine there but would love to hear what you are experiencing.

He nurses every 2 hours. Occasionally he goes 3, but that is rare. Typically he nurses for 15-20 minutes but has the occasional 45 minute session.

My four week old is growing growing growing but only nurses for about 10-15min total.  Most of what I've read is he should be nursing a minimum of 20min up to 45min, but he is just done by 15min.  I don't know if he guzzles too fast or what.  I also change his diaper in btw breasts because he loves to poop during the 1st course.  Even still, he averages only about 8min or so each breast.

No matter what their age, if LO is gaining enough weight and having enough wet/dirty diapers, they are getting enough to eat. Some babies eat more frequently than others; it sounds like your LO is right on track. My DD has only nursed for 5-10 mins per side since 2 weeks.

I don't really time our nursing sessions as I usually occupy my mind by watching TV or surfing the internet while nursing him, but I suppose he feeds anywhere from a minute (when he wants consolation) to 30 minutes and about every 2-3 hours.
