Re: "complex area" on my ovary?

  • Yup - just got a call this morning that I have a 2.5cm "complex" cyst on my right ovary. I'm getting a more "in-depth" ultrasound done on Friday....I'm nervous as hell, even though the nurse told me not to be. I wish she had told me not to read anything online.....the one good thing is that I read 95% of cysts are nothing to worry about.

Do you know how big yours is? have you been getting any pains?

  • mine is 22 mm, last month when i had an u/s they thought it was a follicle. my nurse told me that it wasn't a cyst. my doctor is, of course, out of town this week.

i have never had any pain at all, so this is a shocker to me.

we still really want to do an iui (unmedicated this month due to this little surprise) and it may be possible if i ovulate from the other ovary this month. this is all so confusing....

i wish you the best of luck! thanks for the reply.

  • that is interesting because we are having trouble with mfi. we have wondered a couple of times if we have conceived but not implanted well or it was c/p.

no positive hpt, but triphasic temps and other early pg sx.

this period has been much heavier than any other...sigh.

part of me feels like i really don't care as long as it doesn't keep us from the iui and is not dangerous

the other part (the scientist part) really wants to know wtf is up with this? thanks for the response of your experience.

  • Are you going in for another ultrasound? I'm having mine on Friday and will let you know about what they say....I was doing an unmedicated cycle this cycle since I have 8 follies on left and 18 on my right. Of course with my luck (not to sound like a negative nancy) I'll ovulate on my right side this month and the cyst will prevent anything. ugh, who knows. right now this whole IF thing seems like 1 step forward and 3 back. My RE suggested IUI eventually if things still don't pan out over the next few months, so I'm the same way....as long as this cyst doesn't interfere, fine. But if it does, hopefully they'll just remove it. I haven't really had pain much either, I mean I always get some twinges in the ovary area but I never pay much attention....part of me just always hopes it's O'ing! Anyway, good luck to you and definitely keep in touch :) It always helps when someone else is going through the same thing.....

PS. my friend who is a PA told me that most often, the cysts are really just dried blood and harmless, but that if it is a dermoid cyst (with teeth, hair etc) that doesn't necessarily indicate a miscarriage or anything.

  • I have a history of complex cysts and mine are complex because they are blood filled rather than filled with clear fluid.  It could be a hemorrhagic cyst.
