I am not talking family, I feel they are a give-in.
Teachers? Dance coach? Sunday School teachers?
Last year we gave a GC to DD's preschool and sunday school teachers. Even though the girls did gymnastics I didn't do anything for their coaches.... maybe because they were 13-14 yo's.
We gave DD's teacher a gift this week - she is on maternity leave & came back for conferences. MIL is the girls SS teacher this year and though I feel I should, because that is what I did last year, it is a little weird because it is Gma.
Re: Who do you buy gifts for?
We are doing:
Teachers (including gym, art and music)
Dance Instructors and assistants.
Drew's EI worker.
{Ava 5.16.06} {Ella 12.29.07} {Drew 2.9.10}
Family: parents, in-laws, SIL and her husband, my brother and his girl friend (older brother/his wife and I/my husband do not exchange gifts with each other anymore), nieces, nephews, grandparents
Therapists - I have 4 to buy for but 1 of them I will spend more on because she does 2 different therapies with my son.
Daycare provider
Daycare provider(s)/preschool teachers
That's 7 people. I am sure there are floaters in the preschool, but I don't know/recognize them, so I am sticking to the ones we know.
And can we talk about WHAT people are getting?
I have done gift cards to Target, Dunkin Donuts (they go there daily) or Starbucks in the past. Not sure what to do this year.
I do gifts (usually GC) for all the kids' teachers including preschool (two per kid) and DD#1's Kindy teacher. And I do a big GC for my nanny who has the kids on Fridays. I love her! I only do homemade goodies and a card for DD#2's museum school teachers (they only have her 2 hours a week), the music/gym teacher at preschool and the preschool director and assistant director. I might do a big tray of goodies for the elementary school office including the principal, but we'll see. I just can't afford to do everyone. DD#1 has 5 specials - art, music, creative dramtics, technology and PE. It just gets to be too much. I also do homemade goodies of some kind for my neighbors and close friends in the area, but nothing too big.
ETA - I also try to give a little something to my nice FedEx guy but it's always hard because there seem to be a ton of new and different ones over the holiday and not my regular one. I get FedEx packages at least a few times a week from my lab so he's here a lot.
Neighbors: this year I am doing hot buttered rum mix in a half pint canning jar with a mini of rum. This is for the 6 closest neighbors.
Teacher and director of preschool: small gift boxes from Penzey's Spices (they had a Teach and a Care box this fall that were perfect).
Mailman and trash guys are not allowed to accept cash from what I gather, so they are getting something edible, too.
DS doesn't take any classes or anything that would need gifts for those coaches/teachers.
Family is the 4 of us, my mom, DHs sister, my brother and SIL. I am also doing a photo book this year and I am ordering an extra copy for DHs dad who I have never met.
DS - December 2006
DD - December 2008
Teacher: Gym, preschool and church
Next door neighbor
Guess I forgot the neighbors. I made mini bread loaves and gave them each 4-5 of those.
I'll bake for my Moms Club friends and the mail/milk man too.
DD's preschool teacher, assistant and SS teacher
I made cookies for the mail man last year I will do that again. We don't have trash pick/up we burn it.
I don't know about my neighbors, we don't know them well, we live in the country and there is about 10 acres between us and on the other side is all farm land.
DD 1/29/07 -
Not too many people outside of family:
We get small gifts for my dc's best friends and the children of our closest friends. We're talking about 6 kids outside of our family in total and typically spend no more than $10-$15/each.
We have a few good friends who we'll usually give a bottle of wine, 6-pack of a good beer, a bottle of whiskey, etc. This accounts for another 4-5 people.
Our trash man is awesome- he's a one man deal. He does it all- the business end, drives the truck, picks up the trash. If you ever have a bunch of stuff you can give him a call and he'll make an extra trip to come pick it up. He's so nice and yet super professional at the same time and we always make sure to leave him a check at Christmas.
We usually make something for co-workers and random neighbors: vanilla, homemade jam, etc.
Main teacher, 1 TA, 2 helpers, and some sort of basket for the staff at their school. Thankfully, they are in the same class this year. When TB was in the toddler class, they had 2 TA's and 6 helpers! Gah!
Ballet/piano instructors.
1 main teacher, 2 assistants, and principal of their Vietnamese school.
