Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Reflux????

Ok, my little boy will be 6 months on Sunday.  He has always been a great eater, but the past few weeks he has not been eating well.  He used to love his rice cereal and then all the sudden he is refusing to eating it, spitting it back out, or throwing it up.  We are giving him 2 tbsp of rice cereal in additon of his 6 oz bottle.  He won't eat the cereal and barely has any of his bottle.  However, he will eat his fruit and veggies, along with 4 oz of his 6 oz bottle.  But in the morning and night he doesn't not want the cereal.  He has been spitting up a lot the past few weeks and has started vomiting more the past 1-2 weeks.  He vomits after eating rice cereal, fruit, veggies, and his bottle.

He has also not been sleeping well, which we thought may be due to teething, but I was reading some other posts and all the things on reflux sound like him.  While he's having his cereal and or bottle he'll yell and squirm and not be interested in his food, but we know he's hungry.  We've been giving him mylicon and we use Dr. Brown bottles and Similac Sensative.  Last night we propped his crib mattress up, which seemed to help, but he's still not sleeping well.  He wakes up several times a night crying/whinning.  We give him a 4 oz bottle and he hammers it.  We're not sure what else to try....is it time for a trip to the pedi?!?!?!?!

Re: Reflux????

  • I would definitely head to the pedi's office.  H has reflux, and since she's been on her meds (Axid), she's a much happier baby.  You don't want to mess with reflux because it can cause very painful esophageal erosions.  And if that's not what it is, hopefully they can figure out what's going on (maybe food allergies?).  GL!

  • Bring a poopy diaper with you and have them examine it - they can see if he has any allergies in the poop.  GL!  Hope he feels better soon!

  • ok everyone.....so they think it is reflux.  he is on zantac 3x per day.  the first few nights there wasn't much difference, but saturday night he woke up around 12:30-1:00 am (went to bed at 10:00 pm) crying and screaming so hard.  we gave him some water thinking that may may help with the burning.  he drank a few oz and went back to sleep until 7:30 am.  then last night he woke up around 11:00 doing the same thing.  we tried the water again and he dosed off, then about 20 mins later he was back at it.  we feed him 4 oz and he then slept until 5:30-6:00 am; however, around 6:30 am he began his crying fit again.  my husband fed him 6.5 oz and we was fine.  he dosed off for about 45 mins.  my sitter today told me that he slept a lot today and did not eat for her until 11:15 am this morning (after not eating since 6:30 am).  he also slept a lot yesterday and missed a feeding due to sleeping so much.  anyone else have any of this problems?!?!?!
