I voted natural, but that's also because the epidural thing freaks me out and I'd rather be under completely than get the epidural, so the emergency c-sec doesn't seem so bad.
C-Section is a major surgery, I would only choose that if the baby's health or life were at risk. Recover would be faster with a natural birth (in most cases, nothing is true 100% of the time)

Having Delivered a 9lb 6oz baby, i'd go natural. I had intended to but he was induced and i got an epidural cause i wasn't getting any rest between the contractions. I agree with the pp about c-sections being major surgery, why put your body through it if you don't need to? If you end up needing an emergency one, then you need it, but i wouldn't jump the gun.
Ditto the OP's - I'm far more scared of needing a c-section than of delivering naturally. That is my biggest fear. I have no idea why someone would want their stomach cut open instead of vaginal delivery. Freaks me out.

And I mean those that elect to have c-sections. Of course I would do whatever necessary to get my baby here in a healthy and safe manner even if it means a c-section.

My DS, my first, was 9lbs 110z and they told me he was going to be around 7lbs from the U/S. I was in labor for 5 hours with no pain medicatin AT ALL, not even Tylenol! It took a few pushes to get him out and I had a very superficial tear. Honestly, it was not that bad for me. I would never opt for a c-section, there is always a risk of an emergency c-section where your husband would not be invited, but there is a good chance you can have the baby naturally or that the baby is much smaller than what they are telling you, obviously almost 3 lbs off with my LO. C-Sections are major surgery and not something that I feel should be "elective", ever.
I'm surprised at the amount of people who voted natural. I'd have to say I'd go for the c-section.. wouldn't be as exciting for DH, and recovery can be a pain, but I'd be terrified for a really long labour or something if I went natural.
Epidurals are not an option in the Namibia. I am not afraid of a c-section, or natural birth. But I am afraid of being put under and missing his birth completely. When I read about people who are so traumatized or disappointed by their birth experience that it takes them months to get over it at first I did not understand that. But now, thinking about losing out of getting to see him born or hear his first cry, I could see being depressed for a while after the birth if that were to happen. Also in Namibia you have about a 4-6 hour window to deliver once your water breaks before they will send you for an emergency c-section. For every one vaginal birth there are 6 c-sections. I just am at a loss at what to do. I don't have my heart set on any one kind of deliver, I just have my heart set on seeing him born, hearing his first cry, and getting to hold him right after the is born.
My DS was projected to be 9 lbs 5 ounces. My Dr. told me she didn't think there was any chance I would be able to have him naturally. So, we went ahead and scheduled a c-section. He ended up being 9 lbs 8 ounces and my dr said there wasn't anyway he would have come out regularly.
Anyway that you can schedule the c-section. I've heard that c-sections are so much easier if you don't first go into labor- spend hours in labor and then ultimately go through a c-section.
My recovery was relatively easy and I am perfectly OK if I have to go the c-section route again this time.
