Yes he was just born a week ago at 30 weeks. this is my first time looking at preemies board, since this is all so new an unexpected. Last week we thought I was simply gonna be on bed rest for the remaining pregnancy, but he couldn't wait any longer.

Welcome!  Adjusted age is the age when you treat your due date as your child's birthday.

So, my son was born at 26w3d on 1/25/11.  His due date was 4/30/11.  Today, his actual age is 10 months 4 days, but his adjusted age is 6 months 29 days.  For preemies, you track their milestones based on adjusted age, especially at first.  So, my son would be expected to be hitting the milestones of a 7-month-old, not necessarily a 10-month-old.

Gestational age is a related concept which counts backwards from your due date.  So, when you say your baby was born at 30 weeks, that was his gestational age at birth.  Now, a week later, his gestational age is 31 weeks.  Once you hit your due date, you switch from gestational age to adjusted age.

Hope that helps!  Let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you so much, that makes sense. This is still all so new and I hadn't even thought of all the milestones he'd be hitting at a little later actual age.
