DS climbed into bed with us last night. He has never done that in his life (other than when we are on vacation). He's always talking about spiders, zombies, monsters, etc. The only way I could get him back to bed was by turning on the dim light in the nook in his room.
Is there anything I can do to help him with this? Is it just a phase?
Re: Nightmares?
I think it must just come with the age. DS1 has nightmares and night terrors pretty frequently. I think it may get a little worse before it gets better. At least that has been the case with us. It seems worse when he's over tired.
He has 2 night lights in his room, sleeps with the door open, and the bathroom light on. That seems to help when he has nightmares. The night terrors are the frustrating thng since he's not really awake. He's just kind of crying and yelling out. His eyes will be wide open and he has no idea what is going on.
We talk about dreams, good and bad, when he remembers them. He seems to like to hear that I had nightmares too when I was little (and even now sometimes). I tell him he can always come in our room (which he's only done once), and we stopped letting him watch shows that were "scary" (his cousins got him started on goosebumps, and it was just too freaky for him, so no more of that).
I'm thinking of getting a little lamp for him to keep on too, instead of just the night lights.
