I voted ss because we didn't use them at first. I even went out of my way to find and purchase a bedding set that came without one. However, once she started rolling around the crib she started to get her legs stuck through the bars. After about the third time I had to force her chunky little leg back through, I went out and bought one.

I didn't have a bumper on the crib and then when we did sleep training right at 6 months he would roll around and bang his head on the railings. When he woke up with a bump on his forehead I put it in. Haven't regretted it although there was one time where I checked on him and I moved him away from the side a little.
And fwiw-I put him down on his belly and when I check on him after he has fallen asleep he is face down on the mattress.
We took them off as soon as B rolled onto his tummy in the crib bc he was really smushed into the side. But, the next day, he smashed his head really bad twice into the crib and also got his arm stuck all the way up to his shoulder so we put them back on. No problems since. Plus, we have the Anglecare monitor, that eases my mind a bit.

THIS!!...My little one rolls around too. SO much so that her leg got caught in the slats and she woke up screaming.
I voted SS because we have a regular bumper and a breathable one. A friend of ours handed down her son's crib bedding with a regular bumper for DS so we only had to buy bedding for DD. I read all the articles about how dangerous they were for babies but wasn't sold on not having them at all so we went the breathable bumper route for her. Ultimately, I'm glad we got the bumper because DS likes to scoot along the sides of his crib until he finds a comfy spot no matter where we set him down in it and I can imagine all the bumps and bruises he'd have if we didn't have the bumper. We do have angelcare monitors so that helps with peace of mind.
