How do you comfortably bed share?

My LO has been getting up several times every night and will want to play for 2 hours. Usually by the 3-4th time, I end up bringing him into bed so we both can get some sleep but it is so uncomfortable. My back hurts, my shoulder hurts, my neck hurts. How do you comfortably bedshare?  I usually will nurse lying down to get him back to sleep and if I try to move after he falls asleep, he will wake up. So I'm on my side with a pillow between my legs but can't seem to find a position that is comfortable.

Re: How do you comfortably bed share?

  • Hm, I lie in a position similar to you. I have a pillow behind my head that I fold my bottom arm under and my top arm rests on LO. I then have a second pillow between my knees.

If I need to switch sides or move at night because I'm getting stiff/sore, I roll her onto my chest. Sometimes she is nice and stays asleep and I can sleep on my back for a little bit (yay!). Otherwise, I just flip to the other side. She sometimes needs to nurse to resettle, but she doesn't wake all the way up.

If my hip or shoulder really hurt and I don't want to risk disturbing her, I kind of put my bottom arm around her, but not really touching, and lie on my back.

Also, I have MH take her sometimes in the morning or at the beginning of the night so I can sleep on my stomach. She, lately, won't sleep on him, but he'll walk her around if she's sleepy or play with her if she's awake in the morning.

  • we have the luxury of having room in the nursery to put two twin size mattresses on the floor. i sleep on one and my lo sleeps on the other. i can move freely through the night without disturbing her, but am close enough to nurse her without moving too much. i cant sleep with my dh, but we cant sleep in the same room cause he snores way too loud anyways

All of this, plus we have a King bed, tha she gets half of, and I end up with my back against my hubby. who is very sweet, and when he hears us stir will give me  mini back rub. It can be uncomfortable, but I will take that and usully a long stretch of sleep than worrying restlessly all night with her out of our bed.
