Yes, absolutely. In our case, DH's hobby is sporting clays. (It's skeet & trap shooting at stations set up on a course through the woods. The clays are supposed to simulate hunting situations)
I'm sure he will be taking our DD with him on a Saturday afternoon in a few years. DD probably won't shoot at that age. The point will be to teach her responsibility and show her the care that everyone has to take around guns. And also to show her the destruction a gun can do so she has an understanding of the power it has.
DH has guns in the house so it is important that they not be mysterious objects of desire for our kids. Our kids will learn caution and respect through controlled exposure to the guns.
NO!!!!!!!! But I could be talked into it depending on the situation.

Those who said yes, you would let your 8 year old shoot a fully automatic Uzi, as this child was? I'm sorry, it's clearly reckless and unnecessary, as this death proves.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I see the question about the shooting range in the header of this post and there is nothing inside when I open the post. I see no link to a story about an 8 year old with an Uzi.

Yes. I think that it is important to learn gun safety at an early age. Although our shooting range was in our back yard growing up.
