nipple selection--actual or adjusted age

Do you choose bottle nipples based on adjusted or actual age?

We went more by her adjusted age initially.  We got slow flow nipples for her to start, and after that we followed her lead for when to move up.  Once she started getting frustrated/chewed on the nipple excessively, we switched to the next flow speed.

    Yep.

We worked with Speech Therapy to help us determine the best nipple and flow for one of our guys.

We've never moved up from the nipples he had as a newborn.  He still uses ultra slow-flow nipples.  I pump at work and breastfeed at home, and I didn't want to have a situation where he prefered bottles to breast.

  • We have gone with a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach so she is still on level 1 and we haven't really worried about moving up since she isn't having any trouble.
