Sciatic Pain - anyone's unbearable?

I'm guessing this is sciatic pain, but OMG does it hurt. Last night I was in the floor crying because of it. It felt like my lower back/butt pone was broken and every time I moved it would send shooting pains down my leg. Only on the right side. Is this normal/common? I can't imagine that pain like that is. I seriously thought I was going to die. I know there isn't much I can do about it, I just want to know if it really is sciatic pain and if anyone else has it this bad.

PS: Happy Black Friday!

  • Girl, your NOT alone! Mine kills me from time to time as well! It just depends on how LO is laying in there. Sometimes they will hit that nerve just right and it KILLS! I take a warm bath, and rub it and it usually helps with the pain. So, yup its normal!

  • Yup. My sciatic pain is s big reason why I'm done with work already, it is excruciatingly painful to sit for any length of time. I would die without hot baths and my chiropractor
  • You are not alone, consider yourself lucky it just now kicked in. I've been having major scaitica issues since 10 weeks (I'm sure a 2 yr old doesn't help). Take a bath and try some yoga.
  • Yep!  I had the same type of pain about a month ago, it lasted a few weeks.  I guess Alex changed positions for me because it went away one day :knock on wood:

  • I've had it for years. It's horrible...to say the least.

My dog pulled me down one day and I landed on both my left palm and left knee. I got up from that and was fine. The next day...my cousin brought me a goofy European broom for my area rugs and I was trying it out. When I stood up straight after using it the pain hit and was (I swear) paralyzed with pain that I would compare to being worse than childbirth for weeks.

Had an x-ray because I was sure I had broke my hip. The Dr couldn't see anything wrong. DH insisted I go to a chiropractor. They saw I was all messed up and popped me a couple times...it got better. This was about 3 or so years ago and it still flares up a few times a year. Percocet is the only thing that works for the pain.

This pregnancy I suffered through the first trimester and some of the second with sciatic pain (obviously without any pain medication). I figured out what was antagonizing it. Driving my car.....working the clutch with my left leg. Once I stopped driving it eased up almost completely.

I hope yours is pregnancy related and will go away after the baby is born. I'm so sorry you have to experience that. It's a pain I wouldn't wish upon even my worst enemy. Sad

  • Yup sounds like sciatic nerve to me! I started getting this earlier in the pregnancy and now it is unbearable. To the point where I could just cry when I realize I have to get out of bed to pee (that's when it is the worst for me). Honestly as much as I was quick to turn my head against support belts, my doctor suggested it and I gave in and bought one...and honestly it was the best $30 I have spent. After a day of wearing it now I am hooked and can't go a day without putting it on.

This is the one I bought...  https://www.motherhood.com/Product.asp?Product_Id=976100113&MasterCategory_Id=MC32

ETA: ...and I second the hot baths at night, they do help! Times like these I am thankful for my heated seats in my SUV!

  • I hurt from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed.  I take tylonal and that takes the major pain away but its still there all day long..  I cry at least once if not twice a day.  I would love to now how to relieve it.
