Anyone have a Ford Fiesta/Hyundai Accent? Good buy?

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you all had a blessed day. I learned that being PG during the holidays is the best! Anyways, DH and I are looking at a more economical vehicle. Do any of you own a fiesta or accent? Are they pretty much the same car?? Would you recommend buying one new? I am worried about everything fitting once LO is here (carseat, baby bags, plus the three of us??).  I think the car is cute, and I love love love the lime green!

TIA

  • The Ford Fiesta has a lot more power than the Hyundai Accent (my husband is a car expert,) but if you're gonna have a kid in there he suggests the Ford Fiesta sedan and not the hatchback (has more space).

  • I DO!  We have a Ford Fiesta - in lime squeeze (yep, that's the true name to the color!).  We have the hatchback version.  My husband is 6.5 and fits just fine in the front.  I haven't put the carseat in the back yet - and I have been a little worried about it and him fitting.  But we usually take his car if both of us are traveling together.

I think the car was a great buy - I average 37 - 41 miles per gallon.  One thing that I'm worried about is the snow this winter - we live in Minnesota (haven't gotten too much snow just yet) and what little snow we have had - the car had trouble getting up the driveway :(

  • I test drove an Accent when I was buying my first car, over 10 years ago, OMG!

Anyways, I didn't like the Accent b/c it felt too small to me. I ended up going with an Elantra and I LOOOOVED that car! If I hadn't have wrecked that car I think I would probably still have it :). But on the plus side, I walked away from that accident w/o anything more than a scratch, and my car had flipped over, so Hyundais are VERY safe!!!!

Good luck on deciding on a new car!!

  • I like Accents a lot - but I definitely think it's a little small for all those baby goods. We test drove an Elantra a few weeks ago, which is the size up from Accents, and while it was super nice we do plan on having a second baby in a few years, and I don't want to have to buy a new car when 2 car seats don't fit. I think it'd be a very tight squeeze in an Accent.

Hello, I live in MN too! Where did you buy yours? We are debating on whether to buy new or used. Have you thought of snow tires? DH insists it's a must on whichever car I decide on. P.S. It is past 10pm and I am still SO FULL!!!  I love Thanksgiving!  Hope you enjoyed yours.  :)

  • I drive a Hyundai elantra touring wagon an love it!  I think hyundais are one of the best manufacturers out there with great quality, price, service and warranty.  I would def recommend that brand first. If you can afford an Elantra, try that model too.  Good luck!

This is the one thing I keep hearing about the Ford that is making me lean towards it rather than the Hyundai. The more I think about it, the sedan definitely makes more sense as well. Thank you, cross your fingers for a new car this weekend!!  :)

  • I loved my Accent, but it was my first car and I had no baby.  Not sure how well it would work with all that, but really loved it for just me.  My parents had an Elantra for a long time and it was a really wonderful car also.  I think that for the price, Hyundai's are one of the best manufacturer's out there.

  • Sorry it took me so long - yes, we got a 2011 this last march.  We bought it used (with less than 3000 miles on it.  Turns out the guy who bought it before we did didn't like it too much and traded it in within a couple months of having it.  HUGE SCORE for us!

Funny that you're in MN too.  We bought it from a ford dealership around the suburb that we live in.  I haven't thought too much about snow tires just yet.  I just know that I won't be using it too much if I have the baby.  We'll take the other car.  But I absolutely LOVE the car - and think you should go for it!
