GD ladies- how are you going to handle Thanksgiving?

I am planning on having a bite of everything but not putting a heaping spoonful of stuffing or potatoes on my plate.  I feel like if I can do that and test well, I can have another small bite as a snack later on.  I wasn't told I could cheat even though my numbers have been good.  I think it'll also depend on when we eat tomorrow.  I love stuffing too much not to have some.

Re: GD ladies- how are you going to handle Thanksgiving?

  • I didn't have GD over Thanksgiving, but between the two pregnancies I had it over Christmas, Easter, and my birthday :( I did pretty much what you said - a little bit of all the starches. I filled up on protein and veggies, had just enough stuffing/potatoes/bread to not feel deprived, and had a tiny sliver of dessert for my snack. I found that days like that, when I was extra cautious, I actually tested better than a normal day.

  • Enjoy my cheat day and eat whatever I want.  Smile
  • Saw the peri today for a growth scan and she said my sugars have been so much better that I can indulge a little. This is my first TG away from my family, so I have no idea what is even being served and what I will like. I plan to just have a few bites of everything and try to pile up on veggies and turkey.

I would love to bake a splenda-friendly dessert and since I am allowed on my feet a bit, I may do pumpkin chocolate chip brownies.

  • I plan on piling on the veggies and turkey. Luckily I am hosting, so I know I can make veggies that I like and use a sprouted bread in my stuffing (My home made turkey stock rocks so much that I'm not nervous about the taste of the cardboard... erm.. healthy bread) and just have small amounts of starches.

Totally miss being able to make and enjoy some fancy mac n cheese, though. It sucks being a chef with GD, but will be worth it in the end!

Oh, and I'm boycotting dessert. Call me a bad hostess, but if someone wants it, they can bring it themselves and share! :P

  • I"m not GD... just a plain Ol' Diabetic... but my OB said yesterday..."If your face happens to fall into some pumpkin pie, it will be OK!" I thought that was pretty funny :) Then he said... "just don't let your face fall into pie on friday or saturday or sunday though." I <3 my OB :)

  • I'm in charge of appetizers, so I'm bringing:

    - A gourmet cheese plate (which I will enjoy without crackers)
    - Devilled eggs
    - A cheesy artichoke dip (that's yummy with sourdough, but I can have with celery)
    - Olives & picked mushrooms

So, first, I'll get to gorge a bit on all of those things without feeling too guilty.

Then, for dinner, I'll have turkey and green bean casserole with a small serving of stuffing and/or potatoes.

For dessert, I made a low carb cheese cake.

I made the mini cheesecakes yesterday since it says it takes a day or two for the "Splenda" aftertaste to settle out. DH had one last night and said they were good and he hates sweets and definitely hates "diet" food. So, I'll take that as a good sign.

So, I feel like I'll get to enjoy Thanksgiving, shouldn't be too far off the mark with my numbers and still get to indulge a little. I may even have some pumpkin pie if my dinner numbers aren't too high!
