Does anyone's 2y/o (ish) not sleep with a pillow or blanket?

We decided we would give DS a pillow and blanket tonight.  He totally freaked out and screamed out, out , out. So we took them out. He then was fine and went to sleep. How the heck are we ever going  to get him to one day (probably 6 months or so from now)  to sleep in a big boy bed with a pillow and blanket. I just thought we would introduce it now so when the time comes for all that he would be use to having the pillow and blanket and the only thing new would be the bed.

  • Mine still doesn't.  He has had a small blanket in there a few times, but he didn't freak out.  I don't think he'd enjoy a pillow, still, though.  He sleeps on his stomach with his hands underneath him.
  • DD turned 2 in September.  She started using a blanket in September.  We tried the pillow too, but she didn't like it.  She just shoved it aside.

  • We had a small blanket in the crib but he never used it as a blanket.  Just today when he moved to his toddler bed did he get a comforter and pillow and he is lying on the comforter.  I would not do it until he transitions unless he asks.

  • Michelle had a blanket from day 1.  She's had a pillow since she was 15 months old.

  • It's supposed to be healthier to sleep without a pillow.  I wouldn't worry about it.

  • I recently put a pillow and blanket in his crib, also thinking that it would make the "transition" easier when it comes.  While he doesn't freak out about them, he doesn't use them at all, either.  I figure he'll figure it out in his own time; I'm in no hurry to put him into a bed anyway.

  • We bought DD a little toddler pillow around 18 months, and she did fine with that.  She's also used to spending half the night in our bed.  So even though she didn't sleep on our pillow at that point, at least she was used to them being in bed with her.  She's always slept on top of the covers in our bed, and now she still sleeps on top of the covers if she's in bed with us.  She has a fit trying to kick the blankets off her.  In her bed she'll let me cover her up with her blankie (a small receiving blanket) but nothing else.  She wears footie pajamas right now, and as it gets colder I'll start putting a light pajama set underneath those.  She has a pillow in her bed, and she'll sleep on it about half the time I'd say.  Some nights she prefers to scoot down and sleep just on the bed.  Your DS doesn't have to have a pillow or blanket in a big bed.

  • ds has been using a blanket since 21 months or so.  no pillow yet.  He's happy without it so I don't see a need for a pillow.  he wanted the blanket.    Even in a big boy bed he could go w/o a pillow
