I am so glad you asked this. I really have no idea! Everyone is saying their kids already have an Explorer and I can't figure out from reading online what it is exactly!
I know I THOUGHT it was the reading feature but as I looked there might be games/books for the explorer too that do the reading word by word thing? So confused! : )
My DD has an Explorer. It's a little hand held gaming system, kind of like a little kids Nintendo DS From what I understand, the LeapPad is like a little kids IPad.
The Explorer has buttons and a little stylis to use it, I believe the LeapPad is more touchscreen.
Thank you, CBKMRB, My DS does have the Explorer too so I do understand what that is and does....I guess....unless they have some newer games out that are for reading....like the word by word way they advertise the LeapPad. The Explorer you can touch the screen too but use the connected stylis really. So the LeapPad doesn't have a stylis? Just use your fingers to control? Like my cell phone Droid? And when people compare things to an IPad, I don't have any experience with those so I don't get that. : ) So other than how you use it what features are different???
It's a bigger screen and from what I understand, Explorer games are compatible with the LeapPad so any games you currently have will work on a LeapPad. It also has a camera built in. The LeapPad does have a stylus.
