Toddler room

Does your toddler have a "theme" room?  We are changing rooms soon-once we have some renovations done and I'm trying to decide if I should just do a basic room or do a theme.  He'll be 2 and I want something that will last until he is at least 5.  I'm sure at that time we can redo it for what he wants as his "boy" room.  Just wondering what people do and if they did themes what worked.

Re: Toddler room

  • DD's room is just lavender with a "Sweet as a Daisy" wall border (butterflies/dragonflies/daisies/ladybugs) and accents, so I'm pretty sure that'll last her at least a few more years.

For a boy, I'd say anything not too babyish (i.e. rubber duckies) would work--outer space, ocean, cowboy, jungle, sports, transportation....?  I'm having a hard time finding a boy room theme that I like AND that isn't too babyish, too, so I'm not a ton of help!

  • My oldest is 3 1/2 and we have redone his room twice. Originally it was baby animals, he outgrew that and its now trucks.  My youngest we did a dinosaur room but we did it in a way that its easy to change!  We didnt put up borders or anything, the only things that make it a dinosaur theme is the artwork on the walls (even that is easy to change out and keep the frames), the curtain and the bedding.  We figure that way when he wants to pick his own theme or has an interest of his own we can easily change it out by changing the pics, bedding and curtain and we are done.  No painting, ripping down boarders, putting new ones up etc!

  • They go through phases of things in those years. ?I'd go with boy as a theme. ?Stick to a color scheme and then add decorative things that won't break the bank and that can be changed easily. ?Themes can get overdone too and then they look silly. ?Start with bedding you like and add pieces from there that can last for years. ?

  • We just redid DD room in Roxy bedding.  It is teal and brown...no too grown up but colors that are not too babyish.
