Cloth Diapering

hate PF's ... should have skipped the NB stage :(

I hate PF's. I thought I would love them and those are the only thing I bought for the NB stage. :( They are so super bulky, my LO hates them and I feel so bad trying to get it to fit her right while she just stares up at me like I am stupid. The covers for NB don't even fit over the bulky PF's. (NB PF's and NB covers) I am so annoyed and really wish I had not invested all this money into the NB stage for CD's. I will definitely be listing them on diaperswappers soon.

  • I was frustrated with prefolds in the beginning too. But after a bit of practice It got easier. Also, pretty much any CD is going to be bulky on a NB just because they are so small. Have you tried different folds? Or also just trifling it and laying it in the cover? On a side note, I think Green Mountain Diapers is having a sale on prefitteds. (prefold made into A fitted. Not cute but functional)

  • Swap some for some nb fitteds or XS pockets. And try some other folds. All is not lost.

  • I really don't think your daughter hates them or thinks you're stupid. You need to take a deep breath (and a nap next time she sleeps).

Our best bet was the angel wing fold. It's pretty easy - just a tri fold with it spread out in the back. Yes, they're bulky, but babies don't really do much. It's okay.

  • I was in your position about three months ago!  Luckily, I had bought a couple other newborn diapers.  How big is your baby?  If you think it's worth it, what I ended up doing was renting newborn diapers from moderncloth.com when my baby was about 3 or 4 weeks old.  At that time he was maybe 7 lbs, so I knew I'd get plenty of use out of them.  Modern cloth rents Kissaluvs Fitteds, which are good up until 15 lbs. so we still got 12 weeks worth of use.  I actually just mailed back my rentals this week.  It was super easy to do.  We ended up using our prefolds as burp rags until just very recently.  The nice thing about the fitteds was I was still able to use our newborn covers.  I also got some XS fuzzibunz, which were great.  It only cost $60 for 12 diapers.  I figured this was still cheaper than disposables and it was SOOO much easier.  The beginning is tough.  A newborn is a lot of work!!  The fitteds and Fuzzibunz were so much easier and less bulky!  Good luck, whatever you decide, it's okay :o)

This, exactly.  A lot of diaper problems are really just, "ZOMG I'm so tired and overwhelmed right now!"  Not to belittle your issues, but it does get better.  A lot better.  Hang in there!

  • I'm not much help.  I hated prefolds on our newborn too.   When she moved into one-size stuff, I found that I didn't hate prefolds nearly as much.  I think it's just because they're bulky and our covers never fit her very well.  For No. 2, we'll probably try different covers.
  • I hate them too, but use the prefolds as burp cloths and LOOOOVE FB XS pocket diapers. They are still a little bulky but much softer and drier feeling. I plan to sell my covers - where is the best place to do that? I have 4 Thirsties Duo Wraps...
