Diaper Rash - No more BM but Similac Sensitive?

I recently had to transition from BM to formula after over 3 months of pumping round the clock and never getting a proper latch from him.  I've always supplemented because of low supply (tried fenugreek, mother's milk, oatmeal, reglan, etc) but now that he's fully on formula I've been working through the "samples" that I have (I got a TON) and he did fine on Enfamil Infant for 2 weeks.  Then I switched to Similac Sensitive and all of the sudden he has wicked diaper rash!  Did this happen to anyone else?  Do some formulas cause more diaper rash than others?

I also noticed that the similac (even the sensitive "for fussiness and gas" one that I was using) is really FOAMY when you mix the powder (compared to the Enfamil)... I think it might make him MORE gassy... is that possible?

Thanks in advance!

  • DD had the same reaction to the similac for fussiness and gas, and it made her spit-up practically everything she had drank. We switched to a combo of the similac sensitive for spit-up (green lable) and Parents Choice Advantage.

  • DS was definitely more gassy on similac (any kind).  I have a vague recollection of reading somewhere that sudden changes in diet can lead to diaper rash, but that could be just for starting solids (or I could be totally wrong).  I'd try to not switch formula brands around too quickly though.

  • DD tried the Enfamil as well and after a couple of weeks she wouldn't drink it anymore. We switched to Similac Sensitive and it gave her really bad gas. The bottle would have foam just sitting on top and even after letting it settle she would scream after every feeding. Her pedi switched her to Soy formula and and although it took a while for her to take it she is doing much better with it. She is almost completely on formula and the good thing about Soy is no gas.
