My Dr instructed me to start LO on meat soon (so far we're working on a variety of veggie and fruit purees). I get how to puree the meat, but is it ok to freeze, just like a fruit or veggie?
So, if you've done meat, how to you prepare it, and store it? (I'm thinking chicken/turkey, but any experience is helpful).
Also, when did you start your LO on yogurt? Recommendations other than 'whole milk' yogurt (we don't have the gerber baby yogurt here)
How long did you do veggies/fruit until you moved on to these things?
Re: feeding meat?
No advice on the meat thing, LO just started to get his first taste of solids two weeks ago and so far we've only done oatmeal and bananas but I wanted to give my two cents on the yogurt, we had an appointment with a nutritionist (protocol at my pedi's office) and she said to start yogurt once LO is at least 8 months old. I don't know what is the reasoning, I didn't ask but for some reason she stressed not giving DS any dairy products now. Also, I didn't even think there could be an alternative to whole milk yogurt? I had plan on using Stonyfields Organic YoBaby.
ETA: That pic is adorable! I saw your post about the xmas lights pic, it's too cute!!!

I dont make my own baby food... but I can tell you my LO absolutely HATED plain meat! However she likes the combos like chicken noodle, turkey and rice, turkey and sweet potatoe, etc...

For yogurt I just bought a container of Organic Full Fat Plain Yogurt and I combine my own cube of fruit puree to it.
I haven't tried meat yet but I think I'm going to try some turkey on Thanksgiving.
I'm a terrible mother and I don't have any plans to feed pureed meats. I did the same thing with my DS. Once he was more into picking up his own food (around 8-10 months) I intro'd small bits of meat into his diet.
Pureed meats are nast and I refuse to feed my kids that stuff. And pureeing my own is out of the question. lol
My DS has no issue with meat now. Granted, it's not his #1 thing to grab for, but I don't exactly have an issue with that either. He's perfectly healthy, growing like a weed and hitting or exceeding all milestones.
Oh, and I started yogurt with him in the 8-10 month range. No hurry on that one for me either.
Egg yolk is an easy alternative that has most of the benefits of meat and it not gross to puree.
There should be no problem from a food safety perspective to freezing cooked and pureed meat.
We're not doing purees, so he just gets to suck on a strip of beef, pork or chicken right now. He's also had beef tortellini, which he quite enjoyed. I keep meaning to open up a can of tuna or salmon and share it with him for lunch.

I think I saw yobaby at a grocery store yesterday. The grocery store I shop at doesn't carry any baby brands, but if buying a container of plain, whole milk yogurt gets the job done, I don't need to pay more for baby yogurt, which seems to be the same?
I keep hearing different things about egg white too - are you avoiding them token?
I admire BLW - I don't have the heart for it. Do you still work with the 3 day rule?
Maybe i'll try making some blends and freezing - chicken and sweet potato, and chicken and applesauce. (My kid will eat anything with apple sauce).
Thanks guys - I now feel like I can wait a bit longer and my kid isnt going to die. I like that. I tried one of the jarred meats, and it was nasty, so I'm not really rushing to do that.
We aren't avoiding egg white, and we aren't following the 3 day rule. So far, we've had no reactions to anything. There are no food allergies in either of our families, so we're not very concerned. I am waiting on honey (the botulism thing), and sort of on nuts (choking hazard on top of allergen).
I'm sure regular yogurt is fine. Just like regular applesauce is fine. Anything without crazy ingredients is perfectly baby safe.

Our pedi mentioned grinding up meat and spoon feeding it to him. No thanks. We're sort of doing some BLW, so we have just offered up the occasional strip of meat and omelet. I also ground up some edamame and he liked it. I may try mixing up some lentils or making a hummus for him next. I tried giving him a little plain whole goat's milk yogurt (it was the only plain whole milk organic yogurt I could find at my grocery store). I've read that goat's milk is easier for babies to digest than cow's milk.
All that said, I'm trying not to stress too much about hitting all the food groups yet.
