XP: 3-6 months Alimentum and poop question

We had to switch DD from gerber to similac alimentum due to a milk protein allergy last Wednesday.  I am supposed to call the pedi's office today if it works (no vomiting, diarrhea, and she takes it) to have them submit claim to insurance to see how much they will cover.

Here is my question ladies: When DD has a BM one time it will be greenish/brown and pasty and the next is will be a looser green (borderline mucous like).  Is this normal for this type of formula?  Will it eventually become one consistency?  DD is so much happier now that she is on the alimentum so I think it is working I was just curious about other mom's experience with it.  TIA!

Re: XP: 3-6 months Alimentum and poop question

  • My DS is on Similac Soy because he was sensitive to regular Similac.  It took him a couple of weeks until we didn't see the mucousy type poop.  As long as you start to see it less, I would just say the other formula is just working its way out of her system...

  • Hey! I'm new, my son was actually born on August 20, and I came across this board.  Sorry for butting in but I think I can offer some helpful information.  My son is on the Allimentum as well,  his poop has been a greenish brown almost custardy consistency.  He's been on it for about 2 months now and it works wonders!  The pedi said it can take up to 2 weeks to get the old out, and new formula into the baby's system.  So, in answer to your question it's normal and things should even out at around the 2 week mark!
