anyone's dr way too focused on weight?

My ob was out so I saw a midwife today.. I've been fighting w/ my dr about my weight gain since the beginning I dont gain very easily I am constantly eating & taking my vitamins tho.

Today I lost a pound (not so sure of that since it was a different scale & i donated all my hair last week) So she made me have an hour NST which was the same as last week (absolutely fine w/ no contractions thank god) then yet another growth ultrasound & tried to force me to go to a level 2 somewhere else. Shes not even my dr! Now shes having me come back day after thanksgiving for more tests... She also wants me to stop working when I have a desk job & am not eligible for FMLA until 11/29..

I wish they understood that not everyone can gain 40 pounds. I am 4 foot 10 for crying out loud Idk where I'd put the weight to be honest.  I dont know anyone else who has had this many issues with their weight. They make me feel like im a piece of *** mom whenever Im there & I end up calling DH crying (in the process freaking him out thinking something is wrong with LO)

Help me gain weight! or Is it too late to switch drs?

Re: anyone's dr way too focused on weight?

  • I'm about an inch taller than you and haven't gained anymore than 5lbs this entire pregnancy (it seems to come and go). My doctor hasn't been worried. All other signs are fine---baby is growing, no anemia, etc.

I don't think it's too late for a second opinion. I would have asked this doctor if she had more grounds for wanting all these extra tests done beyond the scale. Are you measuring where you need to be?

You said she wasn't your doctor...where is your doctor? Is he/she contactable...If so I'd do that. This doctor can't MAKE you take these tests and can't MAKE you quit working without real medical knowledge of an issue. I'd brush this off and either contact your doctor about it and get his/her opinion or find another office...

I'm sure this doctor has the best interests in mind...but it sounds like she might be going at it all wrong.

  • Are baby's measurements okay?  I mean, is your belly growing at a healthy rate?  I definitely think some people and doctors put a lot of emphasis on weight gain.  Everyone's body reacts to pregnancy differently, and as long as all the signs are pointing to your baby being healthy, I think they all need to back off about your weight gain.

  • I keep getting told Im measuring small but everyone who knows me can tell the difference. She is over 5 lbs & I still have a month to go. My sister is my size & my nephew was only 6.7 when he was born...

My dr was on vacation (which is good since she will be there for delivery) DH is going with me for the follow up appt next Friday & said hes going to say something since he is fed up with me being upset over these appts. He does all the cooking & makes me steak, chicken, pasta, etc & makes sure I test & eat all my snacks since I have GD (even tho my sugar is fine) so he's offended that they are telling me Im not eating right...

He thinks its too late to find a new OBs office I already am past 35 weeks...

  • I don't think it's ever too late to switch, if you'll find another OB or midwife who is comfortable taking you. Trusting your care provider is so so so important.
