My doctor wants me to have this done at 38 weeks. Is this a common test or should I start worrying that they're going to try and push me to a ceasarian? I went for a growth scan at 32 weeks and my baby was in the 50th percentile at 4 pounds 10 ounces so I wouldn't imagine she'd be large as that's right in the middle of all babies. AnyOne else been told they're going to need this test?
Re: Has anyone had their doctor tell them they want an ultrasound to measure the baby's shoulders?
DW went in for her "last" sono at 36.5 weeks, but the baby was measuring big so now we have a sono per week until delivery apparently.
Apparently the amniotic fluid was measuring high, and the baby's abdomen was measuring larger than his head. The abdomen measurement is a proxy for the shoulders. He was in the 84-percentile, and measuring two weeks ahead.
So, we're scheduled for a growth scan and a biophysical profile.
DW was already on the "high risk" list because of "advanced maternal age" (37). So we've had a lot of sonograms
