I am not planning on starting solids until closer to 6 months, but I have started looking at the wholesomebabyfood.com site and just wanting to learn as much as I can about it now. I understand the reason for starting fruits/veggies such as avocado or banana instead of rice cereal as a first solid, but my question is how does baby get the iron he/she needs if you don't do cereal? I know meats can't be started until a little later.

Re: Solids Question
are you BFing? If so, the type of iron in breastmilk is much more easily absorbed than that in formula and most likely your baby doesn't need much additional iron until later.
If you're wanting iron in their diet, you can choose an iron rich veggie like sweet potatoes, or la leche league even recommends meat as a first food!
my doctore suggested iron rich 1st foods like sweet potatoes and green beans.
Yes I am EBF. Thanks, I guess I didn't realize the iron content of those veggies was high. Good to know. Does that site or another site have any info on the amount of iron found in veggies?
here is a bunch of info on iron and BFing. Also includes a list of high iron foods.
