I only discovered baby-wearing when DD was about 6 months old and I wish I had learned about it sooner. With #2, a carrier is going to be a necessity though.
I have a mei-tei type of carrier that worked well for DD, but that was once she was older. I would love to know what works best for newborns (esp when you have a 3 yr old to chase after). I think that slings are the only thing that is safe for NB, but please tell me if I'm wrong. I have always been worried about slings not feeling secure enough though.
Oh, and bonus points if I can register for it at BRU!
TIA
Re: rec your newborn carrier/sling
Emily LOVED the Moby and so did I.
I used a ring sling a ton when she was itty bitty. I love it for errands because it is so easy to put on quickly. Only down side is that I could only wear it for about 1 hour before my shoulder started to hurt.
For longer carries I loved my Moby Wrap and my woven wrap. The woven wrap ties similar to a moby but is not as bulky. I still use the woven wrap today. Pretty sure you can register for the Moby on BRU.
I found the babywearer.com a really helpful website. They list all the different types of carriers and what ages they are appropriate for. I think they even have reviews of different brands.
There's an awesome Babywearing 101 guide here: https://www.becomingmamas.com/babywearing/
You could also check out an Austin Area Babywearers meeting if you want to try a bunch of different carriers on in person. If you're interested and need more info feel free to email me at my username @gmail.com or join our Yahoo group.
Jackson loved hanging the Moby and the BB Slen (woven wrap) when he was teeny. You can't really go wrong with any kind of wrap style carrier with newborns--it keeps them nice and snuggly next to you.
:-)
i have a baby bjorn air, which we keep in the car for outings. DH likes carrying him in that and it's not as cumbersome as i originally thought it'd be. we also have a beco, which feels more cuddly to me. it has an inner pouch for newborns.
i also have a pouch style sling, which i can't seem to get the hang of. DS always seems squished in there.
