Pregnant after a Loss

Can't help but worry - 1st u/s

Had my 1st u/s yesterday.  It was probably the quickest u/s I've ever had.  Thankfully there was a heartbeat (182 bpm) & the baby is measuring 4 days ahead. However this is the only u/s that I've ever had with any of my pregnancies where the baby didn't move at all.  So I'm a bit concerned.

I know that the baby may have just been sleeping but just a little movement would have made me feel so much better.  I was 8 wks & 3 days yesterday.

With my 1st baby that I m/c, it only measured 8 wks & 3 days even though I was 12 wks. But that baby always measured much smaller than it should have so we really have no idea when it passed away.  We had an u/s with that baby at 8 wks & 1 day & it had a heartbeat & was moving around. I can't remember the measurements at that point but it wasn't where it was supposed to be.  The dr's always acted like I was crazy when I told them how far along I really was.   (We used an OPK & only had intercourse during those fertile days so I know that I wasn't a week or two off)

Anyway due to my past loss, I'm nervous anytime that I'm pregnant as I'm sure all of you are as well.  I'll be scheduling a NT scan for the middle of Dec when I get back from visiting my family.  In the meantime, I'm just so nervous. I just needed to share my fears with others that can understand.

Re: Can't help but worry - 1st u/s

  • At 8 weeks the most you will catch via ultrasound is them wiggling slightly. If baby was sleeping then it is even more reason not to have seen any movement. I personally wouldn't worry at this point.

  • I just had my NT on Monday but the regular sono before that at my OB's was around 9 weeks and I didn't see the baby moving, even though there was a strong hb and the dr said all was great I was still worried!  I guess they need their rest too!  Good luck with everything and can't wait to hear good news!

  • I had an u/s at 8w3d and I could see any movement. The doctor said he noticed some movement, but I saw nothing. I don't think the lack of movement is a cause for concern.

  • Thanks ladies!  I had u/s with both prior pregnancies at this point & saw a lot of movement both times - especially the arms waving around.  Last time, the nurse even commented how it must be a boy because the baby was moving so much.  (Ended up being a girl though) So I guess that I've just been fortunate the other 2 times to have active little ones at 8 wks already.

Threw me off a little this time not to see any movement & the dr didn't really comment on it at all.  She seemed to really be in a hurry (I was the last appt of the day so they literally turned off the lights & pulled out of the parking lot as soon as we finished).
